Potential career path and developmental opportunities for scholars

Through SgIS, the scholars will be given the opportunity to undergo an enriching internship where they will learn the workings of a power plant. Upon graduating, the students will embark on a learning journey. On-the-job training and mentorship will be given to the scholars to ensure that they fully understand the workings of the plant. Classroom and theoretical lessons will also be conducted by senior engineers to help the scholars better grasp the workings of the power plant and its engineering concepts. The scholars will also be sent for various leadership and training programmes to ensure holistic development of their knowledge and skills. 

The scholars will have a clear career progression path. Scholars will be sent for training to continuously upgrade their skill set for career progression. Various learning opportunities will be given to the scholars to further develop their skills and aid them in their career development. The scholars will also be given the opportunity to work in various departments to hone their skills and knowledge, and give them a better understanding of the operations of a power plant.

 

Target Audience

  • Young Singapore citizens who are currently pursuing their full-time undergraduate studies in a local university are eligible for the SgIS Mid-Term Local.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Singapore Citizen
  • Have completed at least 1 academic semester and have not embarked on final year of study at point of application
  • Good co-curricular activities record and leadership achievements
  • Passion to contribute to Singapore’s strategic sectors
  • Good undergraduate results from the following institutions:

- Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

- National University of Singapore (NUS)

- Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT)

- Singapore Management University (SMU)

- Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)

 

Bond Period and Value of Award

  • S$30,000 grant with 2 years bonds for scholars with 1 to 2 academic years remaining in university at point of application 
  • S$50,000 grant with 3 years bonds for scholars with more than 2 academic years remaining in university at point of application
